All’s Fair in Food and Love

Ever come home from a long, tiring day of work and been greeted by the delicious aroma of a home-cooked meal? Your weary limbs find new life as you feast your eyes on fresh-baked lasagna, mozzarella oozing from each layer of warm pasta. Beside it sit mouth-watering slices of thick French bread covered in a generous coating of butter.

Yum!

Your troubles suddenly don’t seem half as bad. That headache that’s been pounding behind your eyes all day? Temporarily forgotten as you dive into the cheesy mountain of carbs and goodness.

It’s not just the food that helps: it’s the knowledge that someone took precious time out of their day to make sure yours became a little better.  It’s the moments spent together with those you love, rather than rushing around trying to figure out where your next meal is coming from, that allow you to relax.

It’s love.

At the Reno Ronald McDonald House, you have the opportunity to share that love and kindness with those who are in desperate need of it through our volunteer Chef Program which brings individuals, civic groups, and organizations together to cook dinner for our guests. This simple but powerful volunteer opportunity has a big effect on those who find themselves in need of our House.

The families who stay at our House are going through circumstances that make aching eyes pale in comparison. Their children are sick and parents are fighting their hardest to give their kids all the support they humanly can. By helping these families come home to one less worry, and a house full of delicious aromas, you’re providing them with a home-away-from-home, a place they can take refuge in as they gather strength for the coming days. Something as simple as sharing your favorite recipe can help alleviate stress for families and let them know they’re loved.
