Our 30th Anniversary Celebration Year
On August 2, 2017, Ronald McDonald House Charities® Northern Nevada reached a milestone of service: 30 years of keeping families close during their times of need. At that point, the charity had:
- hosted more than 7,870 families for 58,452 nights in the Reno Ronald McDonald House.
- provided comfort to families during more than 19,176 visits to the Ronald McDonald Family Room.
- given more than 106,489 free appointments to Nevada’s children through the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile.
- awarded more than $1.26 million to 727 northern Nevada students in scholarship dollars through the RMHC Northern Nevada Scholarship Program. In 2016, 64 percent of first-year recipients were the first in their family to attend secondary education.
- provided 139 families with the resources to take 822 trips to their child’s out-of-area treatment through Travel-for-Treatment.
We’ve always known we can’t make medicine taste better nor can we take the sting out of treatments. But for 30 years, Ronald McDonald House Charities® Northern Nevada, and its multiple partners have managed to reduce stress for families in northern Nevada and northern California who are dealing with a shift in their world.
To commemorate the significance of reaching this “pearl” anniversary, we invited the community to participate in a variety of scheduled events and observations throughout our 30th Anniversary Celebration Year.

Our sincere gratitude to these generous community partners for making this year incredibly special:
Goal 1: 30 for 30
- Welcome 30 new sponsors into the fold to match the years of our service within the community. View Corporate Donor opportunities or visit our events page to see how you can get involved.
- Host 30 more families for 30 more nights. Donate today to help us get this goal.
Goal 2: Fundraisers in Your Region
- Ronald McDonald House Charities® Northern Nevada serves families from a wide range of northern Nevada and northern California communities, including but not limited to: Elko, Battle Mountain, Carlin, Fernley, Fallon, Smith Valley, Yerington, Gardnerville, Minden, Carson City, Truckee, Incline, Lake Tahoe, Susanville, Portola, and additional towns. The House and the families served by it would benefit greatly from fundraisers hosted within those constituent communities, especially as many of their residents have either been helped by or may be helped one day by the Reno Ronald McDonald House®. View our Third-Party Event Packet to learn how to host an event benefiting the charity in your community.
Goal 3: Third Signature Event
- We’re rolling out a new event in the summer of 2017! Stay tuned to our events page to learn more as details are announced.
Goal 4: Endowment of Renewable Scholarships
- Each year, the RMHC® U.S. Scholarship Program awards 37 students $1,000 for their first year of higher education after graduating high school. The scholarship committee at Ronald McDonald House Charities® Northern Nevada actively fundraises for this portion of funds, matched up to $18,500 by Ronald McDonald House Charities®, the global entity. But to ensure these students have the greatest chance to finish their education, the Board of Trustees at Ronald McDonald House Charities® Northern Nevada made this scholarship renewable for up to a total of four years. That funding comes from the local community. We are actively seeking endowment dollars to ensure this program does not dwindle.
How Did We Do?
Goal 1: 30 for 30
- Welcome 30 new sponsors into the fold to match the years of our service within the community: The Reno House is delighted to announce we were able to introduce more than 30 new sponsors and partners to the fold in 2017. Welcome to our family!
- Host 30 more families for 30 more nights: We are still tabulating this number, but there’s still time to help us hit this goal. Donate today before the end of 2017.

Goal 3: Third Signature Event
- Thanks to a fabulous partnership with Yelp Reno, Toll Brothers and Whole Foods, we were able to introduce Yelp’s Home Away from Home into our portfolio of fundraisers that help us ensure our House is here for families. Learn more by viewing the recap video. You can attend the second event on June 27, 2018. Stay tuned for more information!

Goal 4: Endowment of Renewable Scholarships
- While we did not secure an endowment to secure the coverage of our renewable portion of the scholarship program, our scholarship committee raised enough to provide 98 scholarships to the students who continued in our program. We are still actively seeking endowment dollars to ensure this program does not dwindle.
