11 Apr Volunteer Series – Peggy Hall
Can you believe it’s already April?
While it’s been a whirlwind year, we’re excited this month has arrived, as it’s Volunteer Appreciation Month. We are acutely aware we couldn’t do anything without the generosity of the people who give their time and energy to support our mission. To properly say thank you to these amazing individuals, this month we’re unveiling a spotlight on series on our volunteers. First up, the fabulous Peggy Hall.
Peggy’s been volunteering at the Ronald McDonald Family Room at Renown Children’s Hospital for the past six years, which makes her the longest serving volunteer in the Family Room! The Family Room is a respite for parents who step away from the bedside, while staying in close proximity to their child.
Peggy provides care and comfort through simple things- snacks and drinks, plus a caring set of ears, she’s also there to connect parents with vital services- perhaps a social worker or chaplain if needed.
“I mainly just listen as often times they just need to talk,” said Peggy. “Just knowing that maybe a kind word or smile from me can make their day better [keeps me coming back].”
Peggy understands what it’s like to go through a tough medical journey as her son was at UC Davis for an extended stay and empathizes with the parents who feel the need to get out of the hospital room and walk around. Working at the Family Room allows her the chance to give back, supporting families who are experiencing what she once went through.
Volunteers like Peggy allow RMHC to serve families that are experiencing difficult times in their lives. If you’re looking for ways to have a direct impact on someone’s life today, visit our website to learn how you can do that and, of course, stay tuned as we feature our additional, wonderful volunteers throughout the coming weeks.
